Question : I have been suffering from several health problems for many years. There’s a white coating underĀ  tongue. I also have joint pains, digestive disorders and problems urinating. I have seen many doctors but after taking medication, my problems seem to worsen.

Answer : Some of these symptoms may be due to a yeast infection. The common culprit here is Candida albicans. Yeast is present in everyone’s gastrointestinal tract. However, when there’s Candida overgrowth, it may cause problems such as oral thrush (white coating underĀ  tongue), bloating, indigestion, lethargy, rectal itching, yeast infection of the skin and frequent bladder infections.

Avoid foods that may promote Candida growth such as refined carbohydrates, including sugar and white flour products as Candida thrives in a high sugar state and can cause a white coating under tongue. Honey, maple syrup, foods with a high yeast or mold content such as alcoholic beverages, cheeses, dried fruit and peanuts, milk and milk products can also encourage an overgrowth. Take wholesome and well-balanced meals. Eighty per cent of the diet should comprise alkaline-forming foods (fresh fruits and vegetables). Fermented dairy products such as yoghurt are also beneficial.

Probiotics can boost the friendly bacteria population in the gas- trointestinal tract that causes the overgrowth of Candida fungus and alleviate symptoms related to this infection. Omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids can also help to bring down inflammation. You can opt for a combi-nation of evening primrose oil and fish oil in capsule form.

Vitamin C and zinc will help strengthen the immune system to cope with other infections during the Candida infestation. Other significant nutrients indicated in chronic Candidiasis include vitamin A, the B group vitamins, folic acid, selenium and iron often helps with a white coating under tongue..

Try applying diluted 100 per cent Tea Tree oil or creams containing Tea Tree oil as it has anti-fungal properties for faster healing. Exercise regularly and keep a proper diet. Try to identify known or suspected allergens and take steps to avoid them. Allergies can weaken the immune system. The use of antibiotics, steroids, immune-suppressing drugs and birth control pills can also suppress the body’s defenses and contribute to a white coating under tongue..

Identify major options for these ingredients in your daily diet making changes, if required. Adults who eat high-fat meats or whole-milk dairy foods at every meal are most likely overindulging fat.
